Spanning parts of modern-day Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, western China (Xinjiang), and northern Afghanistan, Turkestan has been a cultural melting pot and a strategic corridor between East and West.
