Exploring the Qur’anic Chronology of Creation reveals a profound perspective on how our universe transformed from a single point into the complex world we live in today. While modern science focuses on the "how," the Qur’an describes creation in meaningful stages that highlight the purpose behind the heavens and the earth. This layered journey moves from the initial act of creation to the detailed shaping of the stars, planets, and life, finally culminating in the appearance of human beings. In this article, we break down these stages to show how the Qur’an presents a beautifully coherent and purposeful vision of the universe. 1. Chronology of Creation Allah Almighty says in Surah Fussilat: 9.

Bali flights cancelled after Indonesian volcano spews 11 km-high ash tower. Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki on the island of Flores, east of Bali, erupted on Tuesday (June 17, 2025), afternoon, leading to several airlines canceling flights. The volcanic eruption near Bali has significant implications not only for Indonesia but also for people traveling to this region.
This incident highlights the ongoing geological volatility of Indonesia, a country located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” where tectonic activity frequently results in volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, which sent a 11-kilometer-high ash plume into the atmosphere, is not only a significant geological event but also a serious disruption to regional air traffic and tourism, especially given Bali’s heavy reliance on international travel.
One of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes east of Bali erupted at 5.35 pm local time on Tuesday and unleashed 11,000m (about 33,200ft) of grey clouds in the air that could be seen from 150km away.
Key observations:
Aviation Risk: Volcanic ash at such altitudes poses a severe threat to aircraft engines and safety. The decision to cancel flights reflects necessary caution and adherence to international aviation safety standards.
Economic Impact: The disruption of flights to Bali, a major tourist destination, can have ripple effects on local economies heavily dependent on tourism, particularly during peak seasons.
Environmental & Health Concerns: The ash plume may affect air quality on nearby islands, with respiratory health risks and potential contamination of water sources and agriculture.
Preparedness and Monitoring: This event underscores the importance of Indonesia’s volcanic monitoring systems. Given that Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki has erupted before, it’s crucial for authorities to maintain readiness for evacuations and hazard mitigation.
Broader Implications: Such eruptions serve as a reminder of the fragility of human infrastructure in the face of natural forces, urging continuous investment in disaster preparedness, regional coordination, and public education.
In summary, the eruption is a powerful reminder of the dynamic nature of Indonesia’s landscape and the need for resilience in both travel infrastructure and community response systems.
Impact on Climate
The impact of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki’s eruption on the climate depends on several key factors, especially the volume of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and ash released into the stratosphere. A 11-km-high ash plume could have regional or minor global climatic effects, but the outcome hinges on the eruption’s duration, intensity, and chemical output.
Short-term cooling: If significant SO₂ reaches the stratosphere (above ~10–12 km in the tropics), it can form sulfate aerosols that reflect sunlight and cool the Earth’s surface temporarily.
Reduced rainfall: Aerosols can alter cloud formation, potentially reducing precipitation in the surrounding region.
Ash and haze: Suspended ash can cause localized dimming of sunlight, especially within a few hundred kilometers.
2. Global Impact?
A global climate effect (like what occurred after Mount Pinatubo, 1991, which cooled the planet by ~0.5°C) would only happen if:
The eruption is very large (VEI 5 or 6),
Injects millions of tons of SO₂ into the stratosphere,
And sustains this output over weeks to months.
As of now, there is no evidence that Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki has reached that scale.
3. Key Questions for Climate Scientists
Was SO₂ injected into the stratosphere?
How much SO₂ was released?
How long will the eruption last?
If reliable satellite data (e.g., from NASA’s Aura/OMI or ESA’s Sentinel-5P) shows a stratospheric SO₂ cloud, then even a modest regional cooling for a few months could occur.
✅ Summary
Minor to moderate short-term regional cooling is possible.
No significant global climatic impact is expected unless the eruption continues or intensifies.
Monitoring by volcanic and atmospheric agencies in the coming days will clarify the actual climate risk.

In the Name of Allah---the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. The Natural Laws Manifest Divine Programming Introduction Modern science is built upon one of the most remarkable assumptions about reality: the universe is intelligible because it operates according to consistent laws . Gravity behaves according to recognizable mathematical relationships; electromagnetic phenomena follow precise rules; matter interacts according to reproducible physical and chemical principles; biological organisms function through extraordinarily complex systems; and celestial bodies move according to predictable patterns. Science does not create these laws. It discovers, describes, and mathematically formulates the regularities already present in nature. This raises a deeper philosophical question: Why does the universe possess laws at all? Why is nature orderly, measurable, mathematically intelligible, and sufficiently stable for rational beings to discover its structure? From the Islamic perspective, t...
In the Name of Allah---the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. Lebanon's demographic structure is essential for understanding its politics—and especially the growing sense among many Lebanese Sunnis that they have become politically weaker and economically marginalized despite being one of the country's largest communities . Lebanon's total population is approximately 5.9 million people in 2026 . 2025: 5,849,421 — World Bank estimate. ( World Bank Open Data ) 2026 (mid-year UN estimate): approximately 5,897,467 , or 5.90 million . ( Worldometer ) So, for our demographic analysis, ~5.9 million is the appropriate current figure. But there is an important distinction This 5.9 million is the total resident population , not the number of Lebanese citizens. It includes non-citizens, including a substantial Syrian refugee population and Palestinians. That distinction is crucial when discussing Lebanon's sectarian demographics . Lebanon has not conducted an official populati...
In the Name of Allah---the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. The concept of an Intelligent Universe suggests that the cosmos is not just a passive, mechanical system but an evolving, self-organizing entity capable of processing information, much like a vast neural network. Proponents of this idea argue that the universe exhibits intelligence through its finely tuned physical laws, complex cosmic web structures, and adaptive feedback mechanisms, much like a living organism. Some theories, such as panpsychism and biocentrism , propose that consciousness is a fundamental aspect of reality, implying that intelligence is embedded at all levels of the cosmos. Whether through quantum information theory, self-regulating cosmic processes, or the mysterious interconnectedness of space-time, the notion of an Intelligent Universe challenges our understanding of existence, hinting at a deeper order beyond mere randomness. The Qur’an and the Intelligent Universe Allah ...

A Reflection on Surah al-Falaq and Islamic Cosmology Introduction The Qur'an begins Surah al-Falaq with a profound declaration: قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of Al-Falaq." (Qur'an 113:1) Traditionally, Al-Falaq is understood as the dawn or daybreak. Yet the Arabic word possesses a deeper and more fundamental meaning. Derived from the root fa-la-qa , it signifies splitting, cleaving, bursting forth, and emergence. It describes the moment when something concealed breaks through its enclosure and becomes manifest. The sequence of the Surah is noteworthy: قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of Al-Falaq, from the evil of what He has created." If al-Falaq referred only to the daily dawn, there is a certain jump in scale: Verse 1 would refer to a daily natural phenomenon. Verse 2 would immediately move to the entirety of creation. However, if Al-Falaq is understood as the p...
In the Name of Allah---the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. The Kingdom of Saba: Arabia's Greatest Ancient Civilization Introduction The Kingdom of Saba (biblical Sheba ; Arabic: سبأ ) was one of the most prosperous and influential civilizations of the ancient Near East. Centered in present-day Yemen , with its capital at Ma'rib , Saba flourished through its mastery of irrigation, international commerce, monumental architecture, and centralized administration. For centuries, it controlled the lucrative trade in frankincense and myrrh, linking southern Arabia with the Mediterranean, Mesopotamia, East Africa, and the Indian Ocean. While the Kingdom of Saba is well known through the Biblical account of the Queen of Sheba and the Qur'anic narratives in Surahs Saba' and Al-Naml , archaeology has firmly established that Saba was a historical kingdom whose achievements rivaled those of many contemporary civilizations. Thousands of inscriptions, magnificent temples, extens...
