Houthis will meet the Fate of Their Father, Abraha
Makkah al-Mukarramah is not merely a city. It is the heart of the Muslim Ummah, the home of the Ka'bah and the destination of millions of Muslims who come for Hajj and Umrah. Any attempt to threaten the sacred city carries a significance far beyond an ordinary military confrontation.
According to Saudi authorities, a Houthi drone was destroyed south of Makkah before entering the holy city's restricted airspace. The reported incident immediately evokes the memory of Abraha, the ruler of Yemen who marched toward Makkah with an army intending to destroy the Ka'bah. The Houthis have denied that they targeted Makkah, but the reported incident has nevertheless revived the historical memory of the Army of the Elephant.
The Qur'an immortalized Abraha's failed expedition in Surah Al-Fil:
"Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?"
Abraha arrived with military power and confidence, believing that the House of Allah could be destroyed by force. Yet Allah demonstrated that the protection of His Sacred House does not depend upon the worldly power of its enemies.
The historical parallel is striking. Abraha came from Yemen, and centuries later a powerful movement based in Yemen has once again tried directing a weapon toward the vicinity of Makkah. The comparison gives the title its rhetorical meaning: "Father" Abraha represents the earlier Yemeni challenger to the Ka'bah, while the Houthis are portrayed as following in his footsteps.
The Qur'an records the outcome of Abraha's campaign in unmistakable terms:
"And He sent against them birds in flocks, striking them with stones of baked clay, and He made them like eaten straw."
The Army of the Elephant disappeared, but its fate remained as a permanent warning.
The lesson is especially powerful today. Weapons have changed. Abraha possessed elephants and an army; modern forces possess missiles and drones. But the sanctity of Makkah has not changed.
The Ka'bah remains the House of Allah.
Makkah remains the Sacred City.
And the warning of Surah Al-Fil remains preserved in the Qur'an.
If the reported targeting of Makkah is established, the question naturally arises:
Will those who follow the path of Abraha also discover the limits of worldly power before the sanctity of the House of Allah?
Abraha's army marched toward Makkah expecting victory. Instead, its campaign became one of the most enduring examples of divine protection in Islamic history.
The Houthis may possess drones and missiles, but the story of Abraha reminds every power that weapons alone do not determine the fate of the Sacred House.
From Abraha to the Houthis, the geographical connection is Yemen. The historical distance is fourteen centuries. Yet the warning remains the same:
Do not mistake military power for power over the House of Allah.
And so the question remains:
Houthis: Will They Meet the Fate of Their "Father" Abraha?
